Samsung reveals 3D transparent and flexible tablet, AMOLED

Samsung recently released a new demo (in Korean) of a transparent and flexible tablet that offers video, instant translation, and advanced mobile technology that is absolutely mesmerizing. This “tablet of the future” has a bendable 3D, clear screen with what seems to have the capability to display holographic images.

Although this concept has not yet hit the market, Samsung does intend to introduce real flexible phones to the public in early 2012.

The Samsung AMOLED reminds me much of Nokia‘s prototype, the “Kinetic Device.” Nokia is also working on introducing mobile phones with bendable displays and flexible interfaces. Click here for more info. on the Nokia Kinetic Device.

The AMOLED display is amazingly thin, yet tough and can even withstand the impact of a hammer, which has been shown in videos. I’m excited to see what other innovative concepts are to come.

Nokia gave a sneak peek of its prototype called the “Kinetic Device” at the Nokia World 2011 conference.

What makes this mobile device unique is its bendable display and flexible interface.

Instead of using fingers to zoom in and out on the screen as you would with an iPhone, the Nokia Kinetic Device is gripped and controlled by using twisting and bending motions with the hands.

You can actually run the device under a water faucet to clean it without suffering any problems, according to sources from Geek.com.

Bendable and waterproof? Its durability seems quite the advantage.

Nokia did not announce an official release date for this mobile device; however, a Nokia rep said it will hit the market “hopefully soon.”

Calling Time-of-Death on RIM Blackberry

I have been devoted to Blackberry since my first RIM Blackberry 957. Before that, I don’t believe I had a pager style but I might have had a 950, which was really tiny any really handy.  Anyway, I have never been without once since. 2003-2011.

I still have one, a RIM Blackberry Bold 9780. I still love typing on it; however, the stupid thing always has some sort of availability issue that disallows it to actually work for me as I patiently wait for the little clock to stop spinning on it’s face.

It is incapable of multitasking so when it’s deep in though, I can’t even make or receive calls.

I upgraded from the RIM Blackberry Bold 9700 thinking that the new OS and double the memory might help but the little memory manager has made me uninstall everything, down to my Google Talk client, my Google Sync, and my de-duper (contact dupes suck and there is no built in merge application).

Everyone told me, “wait until the RIM Blackberry Bold 9900 — now that’s going to be a phone,” but that’s what someone told me about the Flip video cam right before it was dismantled with extreme prejudice.  I can’t wait until the Bold 9900 or Bold 9930, I need a Blackberry that keeps me in love with the Brand immediately as in now!

So, I finally bought myself an Apple iPhone but it doesn’t type well at all.  Not as fiercely quickly as does my series of RIM Blackberries.

I call time of death on RIM. It’s over.  You guys are done.

iPhone 4 Video Calls Awesome But Still Proprietary

(Originally a comment over on Make the Logo Bigger) Love the commercial and if anyone can make mobile video conferencing work, it is Apple. The reason why it has not worked yet is because these systems are all proprietary. My Nokia N95 is set up for video calls; however, nobody else has a video phone like my N95 and also the stupid networks I were on didn’t support it either… so, it isn’t going to really happen until there is a platform agnostic tool — such as QIK — that will allow many many mobile platforms/phones/etc to work with it and allow everybody — not just N95 or iPhone 4 users.
